Week 5 Checklist

When you have completed this week's assignments you will have:

1. read the assigned pages from Letters from a Skeptic
2. reviewed lesson 1 (Society, Culture, & Politics I)
3. reviewed lesson 2 (Society, Culture, & Politics II)
4. participated in the weekly discussion
5. submitted a written reflection on Boyd's Letters from a Skeptic
6. completed the Week 5 review quiz

Textbooks

To complete the assignments this week, you will need the textbook shown below.

Required Equipment

In addition to a computer and internet connection, you must have a headset including a microphone for participating in ClassLive sessions. The next scheduled ClassLive session is in Week 6.

Required Software

You need access to a computer that meets the technical requirements specified in the Technical Requirements located on the login page of eCollege.

Many of the features of eCollege require current versions of free add-on software. Please make sure you have updated your computer with current versions of:

• Apple QuickTime (Download)
• Adobe Acrobat Reader (Download)

Additional Software

• VLC Media Player. VLC is a free, open-source media player that plays a wide range of media formats. If you are having difficulty playing a particular media file, you may want to try playing the file with VLC.
• Microsoft Word 2003/2007. This course will require you to create documents in MS Word. If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, please contact your instructor.

A portion of the questions in the Review Quiz for Week 5 will come from this reading assignment.

Assignment 2: Review Lesson 1

Click on "Lesson 1: Society, Culture & Politics I" under Week 5 and review the material. This material will be covered in the Review Quiz; taking notes is recommended.

Assignment 3: Review Lesson 2

Click on "Lesson 2: Society, Culture & Politics II" under Week 5 and review the material. This material will be covered in the Review Quiz; taking notes is recommended.

Assignment 4: Participate in the Week 5 Discussion

Click on the "Discussion" link under Week 5 and follow the directions for participating in the discussion.

Note that the discussion assignment has two deadlines. Your initial post must be made by 11:59PM (EST) on Wednesday,July 29.  Your two response-posts must be made by 11:59PM (EST) on Sunday, August 2.

Assignment 5: Complete the Written Reflection on Boyd's Letters from a Skeptic

Week 5 includes a written assignment: a reflection on Gregory Boyd's Letters from a Skeptic. For detailed instructions on completing this assignment, click on the "Boyd Reflection (Letters)" link under Week 5. If you have any questions, please post in "Ask the Prof."

The assignment is due in the appropriate dropbox by 11:59 PM (EST) on Sunday, August 2.

Assignment 6: Complete the Review Quiz

When you have:

1. read the assigned pages in Letters from a Skeptic
2. reviewed lessons 1-2

then you can complete the fifth Review Quiz. To get started, click on "Review Quiz" under Week 5. Be sure to read the directions carefully before starting.
